In 2007, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) introduced a new modular postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP), replacing the previous species and subject driven system. The new CertAVP offers a flexible approach to enable practising vets to achieve veterinary postgraduate qualifications within a module-based framework. Formerly, RCVS certificates were all examined by RCVS appointed examiners, but in 2007 the RCVS invited universities to seek RCVS accreditation for the assessment of modules that would contribute to the new CertAVP qualification.
In response to this invitation, the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE) and Hartpury College, as an Affiliated Institution and Associate Faculty of UWE, formed a partnership with Improve International (Improve) and the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) to develop a number of modules which contribute to the CertAVP. UWE has been accredited by the RCVS to assess candidates in these modules for the purposes of the CertAVP. |

UWE Bristol is one of Britain's most popular universities, with around 30,000 students and 3,000 staff and is the largest provider of Higher Education in the South West of England.
Hartpury College is an outstanding provider of equine care, animal science, agricultural and land management courses, sports science, food technology and related courses.
Improve International has trained 1000’s of vets in the UK and Europe over the last 12 years, through its structured, modular programmes. Regular monthly attendance over a 9-12 month period allows expert tutors the time to cover key topics in a stimulating way, allowing real improvements in knowledge and skills to be gained. Since 2003, Improve has worked closely with the ESVPS, providing training programmes which have been designed specifically for practising vets.
ESVPS now awards a total of 15 different General Practitioner Certificates on a pan-European basis. |
